DOROTHY GRACE COWAN DEAKIN
DEAKIN, DOROTHY GRACE COWAN Dorothy Deakin of Fredericton passed away peacefully at the Oromocto Public Hospital on Sunday, May 17, 2009 following a brief illness. Born in Saint John, NB, Dot was the last surviving member of the family of the late Herbert Starrett and Emma Lillian (Russell) Cowan. During WWII Dot was able to join her late husband, Captain Harry Deakin, when posted to Calgary, AB and Kingston, ON. After the war, Dot and Harry lived in Saint John, Fredericton and Woodstock where they spent most of their married life and enjoyed their cottage at Skiff Lake. They moved to Grand Bay, NB after retirement and Dot relocated to Fredericton in 1994. Wherever they lived Dot and Harry made a lot of friends and always found people who shared their passion for bridge. In addition to her parents and husband, Dot was predeceased by her brother Russell Cowan, sister Marion Carlin, seven sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law. Dot will be remembered by her son Fred Deakin, daughter Sally Lunnie, daughter-in-law LaVerne McCallum Deakin and son-in-law Bill Lunnie as well as her grandchildren Charlotte Deakin Winter (Douglas Winter), Martha Lunnie (David Cass), Andrew Deakin (Christa Methot-Deakin), Sarah Buyting (JP Buyting), Amy Lunnie, great-grandchildren Marieke and Josh Buyting and Rian and Stone Deakin all of the Fredericton area. She is also survived by three nieces and seven nephews. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Dot's life at a reception to be held in the Victoria Room of the Delta Hotel, Fredericton on Wednesday, May 20 7 to 10 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel at McAdam's Funeral Home on Thursday, May 21 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Gil MacKenzie officiating, immediately followed with burial at Bayview Cemetery, Hatfield Point, NB. Family flowers only - remembrances could be made to a charity of your choice www.mcadamsfh.com
