WELLING, NORMAN The passing of Norm Welling husband of Katie Welling of Oromocto occurred on May 21, 2009 at the Oromocto Hospital. He lost his courageous battle with cancer. He was the son of the late Kenneth and Mary Welling. Norm will be sadly missed by his loving wife; Katie of 52 years and his children; Greg, and Gary (Silvina) of Los Angeles, CA, and Karen (Perry Stadler) of Cole Harbor, NS. Norm is survived by his grandchildren; Marisa, Katlyn, Danica, and Keegan, sister; Judy Dernier of Riverview, NB; brothers; Malcolm and Gerald of Shediac Cape, NB. Norm was born on January 5, 1933 in Shediac Cape. Norm was raised in Shediac Cape until he joined the military in 1954 serving in Summerside, P.E.I. until 1959; Grostenquin, France from 1959-1963;Cold Lake, Alberta from 1963-1970; Gagetown, New Brunswick from 1971-1984. Norm was an active fiddler and member of the following associations: Fredericton River Valley Fiddlers and the Maritime Fiddler Association. Norm was one of the founding members of the Fredericton Bluegrass and Old Time Fiddle Music Association of Fredericton. Norm played music for many charities and made many lifelong friends through his association and collaboration with other musicians. Norm spent his retirement summers at his cottage on French Lake where he enjoyed his large garden and boating on the lake. There will be no visitation by request. The memorial service will occur at St. Mary's Church located at 770 McEvoy Street in Fredericton on Saturday, May 30, 2009 at 2:00 pm with Fr. Ian Wetmore is officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society, Oromocto Hospital Palliative Care Program, or the charity of the donor's choice in memory of Norman.
