87, Bras d’Or Audrey Steele, 87, of Church Road, Bras d’Or, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 19, 2008, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Bras d’Or, she was the daughter of the late John Charles and Francis (Swan) Newton. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and was a member of St. Joseph’s parish, Bras d’Or. She is survived by her daughter, Debbie (George) Young, Georges River; her sons, David (Vivian), Windsor, N.S., Bentley (Brenda), Groves Point, and Jackie, Halifax; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Garvin, her daughter, Allison and all her siblings. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2 p.m. Thursday in St. Joseph’s Church, Bras d’Or, with Fr. Peter McLeod officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, the Palliative Care Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, or to a charity of choice.
