71, Sydney It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of William Daniel Wall which occurred April 19, 2008 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a courageous battle of cancer surrounded by his loving family. Born in Sydney, April 14, 1937, he was the son of Mrs. Rita (O’Callahan) (Sampson) Wall, Sydney and the late William D. Wall. Billy was an adherent member of St. Anthony Daniel Church, Sydney. In the early years, Billy worked for Cape Breton Dairymen and spent many years as a waiter in the Sydney area. Prior to his retirement he worked for Red & White Town & Country Store in Sydney River. Billy enjoyed walking as he would walk to most of his destinations. Billy was well known in the community for his pleasant nature, being easygoing and his great sense of humour. He will be missed by all who knew him. Besides his mother, Rita, he is survived by his loving wife, Lucy Wall; daughter, Bernadette, Sydney; six sisters, Sr. Mary Terrnace, West Virginia, Shirley McCormack, Sydney, Joan (Ray Boudreau), Sydney, Brenda (John Wall), Florida, Mary Gibson, Kentville, Pam (Austin) Langlois, Sydney; brothers, Richard, Sydney, Lorne, British Columbia, Johnny (Beverley), Rexdale, Ont., Bobby (Candy), White Rock, B.C., Earl (Darlene), Sydney as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He is also survived by his two cats, Tigger and Taby. Besides his father, he was predeceased by his stepfather, Robert Sampson, a brother, Charlie in infancy, and a brother-in-law, Tommy McCormack. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 23, at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, April 24, at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Fr. Donald MacGillivary officiating. Interment to take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens. Family flowers only, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or charity of choice.
