PLUME, ALICE WINIFRED (WINNIE) Alice Winifred (Winnie) Plume (nee MacKinnon), widow of the late Laughlin MacKinnon Plume (Mack), died June 13, 2009 at the Oromocto Public Hospital. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Winnie, youngest daughter of Laughlin and Alice (Hay) MacKinnon, was born September 7, 1920 in Tay Falls. After her marriage in 1938, Winnie worked with Mack on the farm in Tay Falls until 1966 when they moved to Stanley. Winnie worked at the Stanley Memorial Hospital and the Nashwaak Villa as a housekeeper. She was a long time member of the Stanley Golden Age Club where she was treasurer for many years. She was also active in St. Peter's Presbyterian Church as a member of the WMS and Ladies Aid. In 2008 the Volunteer Firemen recognized Winnie for her sales of tickets on quilts to raise money for the fire department. Winnie's dream was to visit Scotland, the home of her ancestors, but her health prevented her from going. She was able to fly to Alberta twice to attend high school graduations of her granddaughters. After leaving the farm, she and Mack enjoyed summer motor trips to Vermont, Ontario, the Gaspe and PEI. Some of her favorite times were at Seniors' Federation Conventions with Mary, Althea and Margaret. For many years she was active in the Progressive Conservative Party attending nominating conventions and rallies as well as working at elections. Winnie's family sincerely thanks her homemakers who have helped her stay in her home for the last four years. Also, our deepest appreciation goes to the doctors and staff (especially Matthew) of the Oromocto Public Hospital for exceptional care and kindness during the last weeks of her life. Winnie is survived by two daughters, Ella (Ted) Cookson of Cross Creek and Marg (Carl) Cookson of Stanley; and two sons, Bob (Eileen) of Saint John and Mike (Sylvia) of Fredericton. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Glenna MacKinnon; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son George (Shelley); brothers, Howard, Gordon, Mack, John, Angus and Frank; sisters, Mabel Boulter, Maggie Hood, Eva Thomas and Chrissy Jones. Remains are resting at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton. Family will receive visitors on Monday, June 15, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral Services will be held at St. Peter's Presbyterian Church, Stanley, on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at 3 pm with Rev. Doug Blaikie officiating and Pastor Gordon Mowry assisting. Interment will be in St. Peter's Presbyterian Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to St. Peter's Presbyterian Cemetery Fund or a charity of the donor's choice and would be appreciated by the family.
