HOLMES, ELLEN MARGEURITE - The passing of Ellen Margeurite (Young) Holmes of Lincoln, NB, wife of Ethelbert "Bert" Holmes, occurred on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on July 15, 1924 in Hampstead, NB, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Alice (Coughlan) Young. To her nieces and nephews and many others, Ellen was known as "Auntie B". Ellen was a master quilter, knitter, sewer and baker. She loved gathering with family and friends to celebrate special occasions. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. In addition to her husband of 61 years, Ellen is survived by one son, David Holmes (Sylvia) of Saint John; one daughter, Carol Gilmore (Greg) of Keswick Ridge; three grandchildren, Roger Holmes (Becky) of Presque Isle, Maine, Chris Holmes (Radi) of Calgary, Alberta, and Karen MacDonald (Ken) of Scotch lake, NB; two great grandchildren, Elizabeth Nelson and Christiana Holmes; sister-in-law, Joan Young of Belleville, ON; several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Ellen was predeceased by one sister, Alice Doak; two brothers, Allen and Charles Young. Visitation will take place Thursday, July 2, 2009 at Miramichi Valley Funeral Home, 7681 Route 8, New Bandon, NB from 2:00 to 3:30 pm. followed by visitation hours at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB from 7 to 9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held from St. Thomas United Church, Doaktown, NB on Friday, July 3, 2009 at 2 pm with Rev. Lena Medeiros officiating. Interment will take place in St. Thomas United Church Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Canadian Cancer Society, St. Thomas United Church, Doaktown or to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
