MARJORIE K. MCMASTER
MCMASTER, MARJORIE K. The passing of Marjorie Kilpatrick McMaster occurred peacefully at her residence in Fredericton on September 15, 2009. Born in Royalton, Carleton Co., she was the daughter of the late Cody and Florence (Kilpatrick) Burtt and wife of the late Carl Ferris McMaster. After completing high school in Florenceville, NB, she entered the Victoria Public Hospital School of Nursing in Fredericton, graduating in the class of 1948. Following graduation she completed a graduate course at Royal Victoria Hospital, Montreal, in obstetrical nursing. Her nursing career began as a member of staff at the Victoria Public Hospital including time as head Obstetrical Nurse, moving on to the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital and completing her career at the D.V.A. Veterans Unit in Fredericton. She was a member of V.P.H. Nurses' Alumnae and St. Paul's United Church, Fredericton, NB. She loved her nursing fraternity and was often in the middle of planning reunion parties which often took place in our backyard. These gatherings were a testament to how close they were and how much fun they had during and after years of hard work. Marjorie was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Our memories are comforted with thoughts of a loving and caring Mom and Gramma. We shared and experienced her upbringing by spending many a wonderful weekend at Uncle Robert's farm, her homestead. Those were some of the best times a kid could imagine. Many memorable times together were also spent at the camp at Oromocto Lake. Mom and Dad loved being there and treasured having their children and grandchildren with them. They especially enjoyed the month of September when things had quieted down a bit and they were able to enjoy the beautiful fall weather. Mom will always be remembered for her love of cooking, the endless supply of pies and sweets and especially her Saturday night beans and brown bread. Many a neighbor and friend were rewarded for their help with a pie of their choice. It didn't matter if one of the grandkids didn't quite finish all their meal, Gramma would be heard saying "they still need a little dessert" :-). A visit to the house usually meant you were leaving with a tin of cookies or a few jars of jams and jellies. She is survived by her daughter, Alice Louise (Peter) Young of Fredericton; her son, Keith Edward (Carla) McMaster of Fall River, NS; grandchildren, Chelsey (Ryan Hoard) and Jordan Young, Rachael, Marissa, Jamie and Erin McMaster; three sisters, Pearl Cheney of Chilliwack, BC, Irma (William) Campbell of Sherwood Park, AB and Iona Reid of Knoxford, NB; sisters-in-law, Opal Burtt of Centreville, Bea Knight of Fredericton, and Marion McMaster of Point La Nim and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Carl, her parents, her sister Muriel Guyon and her brother Robert Burtt. Visitation will be held at McAdam's Funeral Home, 160 York Street, Fredericton on Sunday, September 20th, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 21st, 2009 at 2:00 pm at St. Paul's United Church with Rev. Paul Ross officiating. Interment will follow at the Fredericton Rural Extension Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the St. Paul's United Church Restoration Fund, IWK Children's Hospital Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society, Alzheimers Society, or the charity of the donor's choice.
