WILKINS, ALBERT EVERETT After a lengthy illness, Albert Wilkins passed away at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on Monday, September 21, 2009 with his wife and daughter by his side. Albert was born in Fredericton, NB on November 26, 1926 to the late Edward and Francis Wilkins. Albert is survived by his wife of 59 years, Shirley (Burtt); children, Stephen (Sherry) Wilkins of Burtts Corner, Beverley (James) McKay of BC; Michael (Kathy) Wilkins of Millville and Karen (Robert) Bird of Birdton; 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Besides his parents, Albert was predeceased by his brothers, Lloyd and Edward. He graduated from Fredericton High School in 1946 and went to work for J. Clark and Sons in Fredericton for 23 years. He left there and built his own business in Douglas under the name of Burtt and Wilkins and later A.E. Wilkins and Son, where he worked for numerous years. He sold the business to his son and proceeded to teach at Community College in St. John and Fredericton. After working in his woodworking shop and building numerous items for his family and friends. He was also a member of the Seniors Workshop in Nashwaaksis where he enjoyed great times with his fellow woodworking buddies. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and spent most weekends at his hunting camp in Claudie or his summer camp in Harvey Lake. Albert was a member of the Marysville rifle and pistol club for a number of years. He and Shirley had a wonderful time in their square dancing days that seen them travel to England, Germany, Hawaii and parts of the United States. Albert was a great reader of books and his absolute favorite was Louis L' Amour that he would read over and over. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Thursday, September 24, 2009 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Memorial Service will take place at York Funeral Home's T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Friday at 3 pm with Father Monte Peters as celebrant. A private family committal will take place at Douglas Rural Cemetery.
