BLANEY, ETTA BERNIECE Etta B. Blaney of Maple Ridge, NB, wife of the late Harold A. Blaney, went peacefully to her Heavenly Home surrounded by family, on Friday evening, October 2, 2009 at the Upper River Valley Hospital, Waterville, NB. Born on March 17, 1918 at Nortondale, York Co., NB, she was a daughter of the late Norman Wilmot and Mary Frances (Gerow) Sharp. Etta is survived by two sons and two daughters, Dean Blaney (Rita), Maple Ridge, NB, Sharon Connor (Brian), Hawkins Corner, NB, Dorothy (Dot) MacElwain (John), Temperance Vale, NB and Ron Blaney (Una), Maple Ridge, NB; 13 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Myrtle Hagerman, Donna van den Broek and Doris Blaney; and a cousin Emma McIntosh. She was predeceased by two children, Edith and Donald and was the last surviving member of her family, being predeceased by sister, Nadine Fawcett, and brothers, Jim, Bill, Norman and Arden, and their spouses. Etta was devoted to her family, and memories of 'Gram' will be precious to the several generations who loved her so deeply. She was a friend to all, a special neighbour to many of the people of Maple Ridge and beyond, and will be remembered with fondness by her nieces and nephews to whom she was a very special 'Aunt Etta.' Etta was a member of the Headpond Twirlers Squaredance Club, the Millville Silver Circle Seniors Club, and an affiliate of the Millville Baptist Church. A devoted Christian lady, she led by example and wished to be remembered as someone who was, above all, kind. Throughout the years, Etta loved to read and recite poetry, which she learned as a child, and she wrote a number of poems, which reflect the love she had for her late husband and her family. She also enjoyed beading, knitting, crocheting, gardening, bird watching and quilting. In failing health, she was able to stay in her home thanks to the dedication of her family and her compassionate caregivers. Ever grateful for any small favour or kindness, our little Etta was treated with great respect by all those around her during her declining years. We especially appreciate the home support of Dr. Fred Goodine and Extra Mural workers who all took special interest in her wellbeing. Visiting hours will be held at Flewelling Funeral Home, 585 Otis Drive, Nackawic, NB on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral service will be held at the Millville Baptist Church, Millville, NB on Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at 3 pm with Rev. Derek Langille and Rev. Wayne Blinn officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Ridge Cemetery. Honourary pallbearers are Eugene Bradley, Arthur Fawcett, Basil Hawkins, Ron McGuigan and Bruce Roberts. Active pallbearers are Eugene Dickinson, Edwin Wallace and nephews, Bev Sharp, Bill Sharp, Bob Sharp and Dale Sharp.
