83, Glace Bay It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Annie Josephine McPhee, Glace Bay, who died at the Glace Bay General Hospital, Monday, April 28, 2008, at the age of 83. Born in New Aberdeen, Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late James and Cassie (Cameron) Walsh. After her marriage, she moved to Passchendaele to raise her family. She was a long-standing member of St. Anthony parish. She is survived by four daughters, Marilyn (Robert) Johnston, Mary (David) Hanrahan, Glace Bay, Sandra Novak, Kay (Garry) Cox, Kitchener, Ont.; six sons, Jim (Marilyn), Eastern Passage, N.S., Kevin (Lynn), Leo (Kelly), Cameron, Gerard (Janice), all of Glace Bay, and Brian (Wendy), Sydney River; 24 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters, Lula (Phon) O’Brien, Glace Bay, Helen Michaels, Florence Forwell, Stasia Reid and Rita (Bob) Leis, Kitchener, Ont.; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, James in 1985, daughter-in-law, Donna McPhee in 1995, brothers, Alex and John, sisters, Kathleen Walsh, Mary Walsh, Margaret Kirby and Jeanette Foster. Ma (Nana) was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was the ‘glue’ of her family and led by her example. Patient and hard-working, she was devoted to loving her family. The teapot was always on and visitors were always welcome. She appreciated the simple things in life, like sitting on her swing on her front step. She enjoyed bingo, watching game shows and her favourite sports teams, especially the Glace Bay Bulldogs ball team. Visitation will be held at Curry’s Funeral Home, Main Street, Glace Bay, Wednesday, April 30 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday, May 1 at 11 a.m. in St. Anthony Church, Dominion Street, Glace Bay, with Fr. Conrad Edwards officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Anthony parish, Alzheimer Society or charity of one’s choice.
