Doris Kathleen Warren

1929-2008 Surrounded by her loving family, Doris passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at Buchanan Memorial Hospital, Neil’s Harbour, at age 79. Doris was born in Ingonish, N.S., the daughter of Hayden and Sadie (Hardy) Roberts. She was a lifelong member of the Ingonish Untied Church, Ingonish Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, a life member of the United Church Women’s Auxiliary and the Highland Manor Women’s Auxiliary. Doris is survived by her husband, Douglas; daughter, Pauline (Roger); son, Frank (Linda); two sisters, Dinah (Rideout), Florence (MacKinnon); brothers, Elmer and Richard Roberts; grandchildren, Kelly (Tim), Jamie (Linda), Kenzie and Benjamin; great-granddaughter, Mackenzie; and son-in-law, Travis. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased brothers, Everett, Simon, John and sister, Eliza (Warren). Doris, along with her husband, Doug, owned and operated the Brookside Drive-In and Landromat for over 30 years. She was well known for her homemade hamburgers and french fires. Doris’s door was always open to the many friends that she met over her lifetime. She was a lifelong supporter of the Liberal Party and was endeared by politicians of all stripes. Some of Doris’s many interests included cards, bingo, quilt making, embroidering and baking ‘Mom’s apple pies.’ Visitation will be held at Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home, Ingonish, Thursday, May 1, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Committal service will be held Friday, May 2 at Ingonish United Church to be conducted by Rev. Chris Matheson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Palliative Care of to Ingonish United Church.
