ELIZABETH STEPHENSON

STEPHENSON, ELIZABETH At the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on November 1, 2009, Elizabeth (Betty) Stephenson of Jewetts Mills, NB, passed away after a brief battle with cancer. Born February 28, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Hattie (Stoddard) Clark. Betty began her working career as a school teacher, teaching in Perth, Lansdowne, and Waterville. After marrying Howard Stephenson in 1947 they settled in Gordonsville, NB. In the mid 1960's the family moved to Somerville, NB and shortly thereafter Betty attended the NBCC in St. Andrews to train as a Registered Nursing Assistant. After graduation she began work at the Carleton Memorial Hospital in Woodstock where she continued to work as a RNA until her retirement. In the summer of 2003 Betty moved to Jewetts Mills to live with her son, Ross, and daughter-in-law, Cheryl Ann. Betty enjoyed spending her summers at the family cottage at Beulah Camp. She is survived by son, Ross (Cheryl Ann) of Jewetts Mills, NB; daughter Anne (Gary) Knight of Barrie, ON; six grandchildren, Kevin (Maggie) Knight, Charity Lee (Jason) Price, Derek (Lisa) Stephenson, Jennifer (Ryan) Phillips, Josh Knight, and Ryan Knight; one great grandchild, Matthew Price; and a number of nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Howard; sisters, Marguerite (Forrest) Tompkins and Gertrude (Robert) Johnston; and a nephew. Betty had requested that no public visitation or formal funeral service be held and her wishes will be respected. Funeral arrangements have been left in the care of Britton's Funeral Home. A private family visitation will be held on Wednesday and a private family funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 5th at Britton Funeral Home. Interment will take place at the Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Beulah Camp building fund, c/o Atlantic District Wesleyan Church, 1830 Mountain Road, Moncton, NB E1G 1A9, Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of the donor's choice.
