
LOUIS CLEMENT SIMARD CD
SIMARD CD, LOUIS CLEMENT The passing of Louis C. Simard CD of Fredericton, NB occurred at the Dr. Chalmers Regional Hospital on November 3, 2009. He was 80. Born in Rimouski, QUE., he was the son of the late Honorable Judge Gerard and Louise (Amyot) Simard. He is survived by his special lady friend Lois Logan. Predeceased by his sister Francine and brother, Paul both of Montreal and brother, Pierre a Navy Captain of Halifax. Louis served in the Canadian Forces for 33 years. During his tenure in the Army he was deployed with NATO in Hanover, Germany with the United Nations in the Middle East, Golan Heights (Israel). Louis was awarded seven medals UNEF1 (Egypt) 62/63 and 75/76, UNEF2 (Egypt) 77, the NATO Service Medal (Germany), UN Medal in for service in Egypt (United Emergency Forces Middle East) UNDOF Medal in Golan Heights 78/79, Peace Keeping Service Medal, the Commissionaire Long Service Award and the Canadian Forces Decoration with Bar. Louis was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #4, the United Nations (Blue Helmets Inc.), the Canadian Guards Regimental Association (Life Member). He received a certificate for the Nobel Peace Prize 1988 as awarded to Peacekeepers for their service on United Peace Keeping Missions. Louis was an avid Numiamatist and reader. With the Corps of Commi-ssionaire's he was employed first at Mactaquac (Fish Hatchery), later with "J" Division RCMP and at Old Government House. He also worked on Smythe Street (RCMP Drug Section) and has been faithfully employed at the Legislature Assembly for the past nine years. He was a very active member and supporter of several organizations in the Fredericton area, the Royal Canadian Legion never failing to participate in the November 11th parade, as well as an active member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), The Blue Helmets Inc. and the Canadian Guards Association. As per his wishes cremation will take place. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2009 from 2 to 4 pm at Bishop's Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Rd. Funeral service for Louis will be Friday at 11 am from Bishop's Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Monte Peters officiating. Following a reception, interment will take place in the Forest Hill Field of Honor.
