RAYMOND OTTO DEAN

DEAN, RAYMOND OTTO 1925-2009 Raymond Otto Dean passed away at the Campbellton Regional Hospital on November 14, 2009, at the age of 84. Born in Campbellton, son of the late Otto and Myrtle Dean, he joined the North Shore Regiment in 1943. The World War II veteran participated in the D-Day invasion until wounded on June 11, 1944, near Caen, France. He was transported back to Halifax on the hospital ship - The Queen Mary and was honourably discharged from the North Shore Regiment on July 10, 1945. Upon his discharge, he worked for Caldwell Construction erecting high voltage transmission lines throughout New Brunswick. He then worked at Canadian National Railways until diesel engine locomotives replaced steam engines in the early 1950s. He spent the remainder of his career - 34 years - working with the Department of Natural Resources, retiring as a licensed mechanic in 1987. He is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Colleen Violet (Hooper) Dean, who he married on July 18, 1950. He is also survived by his five children Kenneth (Wendy) Dean, David (Magdalena) Dean, Judy (Keith) Adams, Doug (Christine) Dean and Beverly (Peter) Douthright; 11 loving grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his brother, Chester (Dorothy) Dean. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Frances Iona Dickie and brother, John Reginald Dean. Visitation will be held at Maher's Funeral Home, 33 Lansdowne St. Campbellton on Monday from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. Funeral services will take place at Maher's Funeral Chapel, 64 Lansdowne St. in Campbellton, Tuesday, November 17 at 11 am. Donations are encouraged to be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
