HOOD JOSEPH APPLEBY

APPLEBY, HOOD JOSEPH The passing of Hood Joseph Appleby of Miramichi, NB, husband of the late Hilda (White) Appleby, occurred on Saturday, November 14, 2009 at the Veteran's Unit of the Miramichi Senior Citizens Home. Hood was formerly of Napadogan and Sept-Iles, PQ. Born in Sunbury Station, NB, he was a son of the late David and Christina (Steeves) Appleby. Hood was a veteran of WWII; he then worked as a rail car inspector with CNR and QNS&L Railway until his retirement in 1983 which brought him back to Napadogan. He was a member of St. Thomas Anglican Church, Stanley, a former member of Sept-Iles Curling Club, life member of the Royal Canadian Legion and founding member of Napadogan Branch # 67. Hood is survived by his sons, Gary (Devota) Appleby of Miramichi, NB, and Dennis (Annie) Appleby of Sherbrooke, PQ; grandchildren, Kimberly, Christine, David, Lisa and Melissa; great grandchildren, Nicolas and Catherine; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Hood was predeceased by his sister Ethel Fudge and brother Donald. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive in Fredericton, on Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A funeral service will be held at St. Thomas Anglican Church, Stanley on Thursday, November 19, 2009, at 11 am, with Rev. Canon Elaine Hamilton officiating. Interment will take place in the church cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund.
