Mary Christine Graham
Judique Tena was born in the town of Inverness in 1917 to Alexander MacInnis and Mary MacInnis (née MacEachen). Her father died from a mine injury when she was six years old. Her mother died in 1961. She was predeceased by her brother, Dougal (in infancy), her sisters, Mary Jessie Campbell, Margaret Shea, Sarah MacInnis, Josephine MacInnis, Catherine MacInnis and her brother, Stephen. Tena married William Graham in 1947. They lived in Judique except for a brief period in Christmas Island. Tena and Bill had four children, Larry, married to Margaret Hodgson, Judique; Margaret, who died at birth; Sandy, married to Mary Lynk, Dartmouth; and Jeanne, married to Peter Barr, Manly, Australia. Tena was also predeceased by her lifelong, best friend, Tess Cotton. Tena loved the Celtic music of Cape Breton and was a fluent speaker of Gaelic. She was a whiz at cribbage and auction and the Sunday New York Times crossword, but her greatest passion was reserved for her family; her husband, her children and her grandchildren, Ted and his spouse, Kate Manning, Toronto; Laura and her spouse, Scott Simpson, Halifax; Ian, Kate, and Matt, Australia; Nicholas and Laila, Halifax; and her great-grandchildren, the twins, Emma and Andrew. Tena has legions of wonderful nieces and nephews in all parts of Canada. She was a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Judique. For the past year, Tena was a resident of the Port Hawkesbury nursing home and received wonderful care from its dedicated staff. She had the smile of an angel, a smile her family and friends will long remember. Tena died peacefully Wednesday, April 30, 2008, surrounded by family. Visitation will be at the Inverness Funeral Home in Judique today (Friday) between 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will take place Saturday, May 3 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tena’s memory to the Tartan Gardens of Judique, PO Box 70, Judique, N.S., B0E IPO. Online condolences may be sent to angusl@mac.com.
