EIDT, FRANK There is a time to live and a time to die. That time came for Frank Eidt on December 11, 2009 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton. His daughter was at his bedside. Frank was born on November 16, 1920 in Walkerton, Ontario, son of Annis Irene Rennie and Franklin George Eidt. He attended Walkerton Primary and Secondary schools from which he had fond memories of his old buddies George Damm, Bob Good and Tom Pye whom he remembered by the saying "Damn Good Apple Pie". Frank went on to the University of Western Ontario where he graduated in 1944 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in history and English literature. Frank worked summers during his university days on the SS Noronic which was a passenger and freighter steamship sailing the Great Lakes. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War, starting his basic training (V-Reserve) while attending university, followed by active service until the end of the war. Following the war, he attended and graduated from the DVA School of Radio in Toronto. Frank spent 39 years in the radio business as a writer and editor. His first job was at CFNB in Fredericton which he fondly referred to at the time as I Can't Find New Brunswick. Once in Fredericton, however, the good Maritime way of life grew on him rapidly and after going back to Ontario for stints at CKNX in Wingham and CKLB in Oshawa, Ontario he returned to Fredericton and CFNB where he worked until he retired in 1985. Frank was predeceased by his wife, Alma; his parents, Annis and Frank; Winifred Eidt, Joey and Jim Rennie and Donald George. Frank is survived by his two adopted children, Annis and her husband Ernie (Keswick, Ontario) and Scott and his wife Simone (Burlington, Ontario and Santiago, Chile); his cousins, Kathleen Giesler (nee Eidt), Vicky Zettle (nee Eidt) both of Walkerton and two grandchildren, Cheryl and Ryan both of Burlington, Ontario. Frank was very fortunate to be surrounded and loved by his Ebony Drive extended family and for this his family will be forever grateful. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Tuesday from 7 to 9 pm and again on Wednesday from 11am to 12 noon with a Memorial Service following from York Funeral Home's T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel with Rev. Paul Thompson officiating. The family ask that donations and memorial tributes be made to the donor's favorite charity in Frank's name.
