STERNS, D. JOAN At St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener, Ontario, Joan Sterns (Hayes) of Guelph, Ontario died on December 28, 2009. Born in Devon, N.B. on Sept 22, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Loretto Hayes. She graduated from St. Joseph's School of Nursing in 1949 and was a supervisor of the children's ward at the Victoria Public Hospital, Fredericton. Joan was the wife of the late Dr. John Sterns (DVM). She is survived by her daughters, Mary Jo Sterns of Guelph and Susan Walker (Stephen) of Grimsby, Ontario. Joan was a sister to Frances Hayes (deceased), Patricia Robertson (William) and Mary Hayes of Fredericton and Edith McKay (late Stuart) of Quebec City. Three grandchildren, nieces and nephews also mourn her loss. Cremation has taken place and graveside service will be held in the spring at St. Anthony's Cemetery, Fredericton. As expressions of sympathy, donations to St. Mary's Hospital, Kitchener or to charity of one's choice would be appreciated by the family.
