COLWELL, WALTER FULTON The family of Walter Colwell, husband of the late (Nell) Eleanor (Staples) Colwell, would like to announce that he passed away peacefully at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on Tuesday, January 12, 2010. Born in Coldstream, Carleton County on April 07, 1924 to Walter Owen Colwell and (Lena) Eleana Beulah (Fulton), Walter was raised in Ripples and moved to Barker's Point (now Fredericton) in his late teens and spent the remainder of his years in the 'Point'. He was a man who worked hard all his life - around his grandparents' and various other farms in the area, out in the woods, at SMT and Devon Lumber and he rounded out his working career with thirty-one years of service at NB Power. He was blessed with over 22 years of retirement and in the summer, if he wasn't in his garden, he was sitting in his rocking chair on the veranda. Walter faithfully attended Union Street, now Devon Park Baptist Church, with his wife and family. He visited friends and family, played forty fives, lovingly tended his garden, baked great biscuits and bread and tackled any project around his home that needed to be done. He was warm and welcoming and always had time to sit down and talk with everyone. He realized he was blessed to have 85 good years, a warm home, wonderful friends and a loving family. He is survived by two daughters who reside in Fredericton, Marilyn Colwell and Eileen Gosse; one son, Stephen (Ingrid), Scarborough, Ontario; one son-in-law, Robin (Bob) Gosse, Calgary, Alberta; one grandson Roland (Leanne) Gosse, Eckville, Alberta and one granddaughter, Amber (Kevin) Waldrum, Mississauga, Ontario; two great grand children, Andy and Cassia Gosse of Eckville, Alberta; two sisters, Charlotte Holland, Fredericton and Eva TerMarsch of Parry Sound, Ontario as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins with whom he dearly loved to spend time. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by his brother, (Sam) Samuel Colwell; his sister Inez and her husband, Albert Smith; brothers-in-law, Weldon Holland and Gordon TerMarsch as well, on his wife's side by (Bun) George and Ethel Staples, Lillian Brittain, Norman Brittain, Berla and Dennis McSorley. The family wishes to thank Dr. Tom Barry and his staff as well as the nurses and staff of 3 SW for their love, care and compassion both to Walter and his family. As well, a special thank you is extended to his church family at Devon Park for their prayers, visits, support and love. Thank you to Four Lakes 50+ Club, the NB Power Monday Morning Retirees Group and the NB Power Retirees Monthly Breakfast Group for their kindness, support and friendship over the years. Finally, thank you to friends and family who loved and welcomed Walter into your homes and at your gatherings. Walter loved each one of you and appreciated all that you did for him over the years - he knew he was truly blessed. Visitation will take place at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive on Thursday, January 14, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Funeral Service will take place at York Funeral Home's T. Gordon MacLeod Memorial Chapel on Friday, January 15, 2010 at 2 pm with Rev. Terry Woodcock officiating. Pallbearers will be his nephews - Dale Colwell, Chris, Dan and Phil Holland, Darrell, Merlin and Jim Smith and Tom TerMarsch. Honourary Pallbearers will be his cousins - Ernie, Doug, Neil and Ronald Colwell, Keith Fulton and Milton Tapley. Interment will take place in Sunny Bank Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the Diabetes Association or the New Brunswick Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
