Henry (Hank) Anthony DiPersio

Sydney Mines On May 5, 2008, after a life that was lived to the fullest, Hank passed away surrounded by the exceptional love of his wife and family. Hank was born June 16, 1922 in Sydney Mines. He was the son of late Rosario and Secondina Di Persio. One of Hank’s proudest accomplishments was his service to his country as a member of the Cape Breton Highlanders during the Second World War. He was wounded twice in action and was recognized for his service in Italy, Germany and France. He was recently awarded a medal for his service in Holland. After the war, Hank trained as a refrigeration mechanic and worked for Ideal Ice Cream in refrigeration and sales. Because of his outgoing personality, he ventured into the area of marketing and at the end of his career, was sales manager for Brookfield and was acknowledged for his innovation and outstanding results in this area. Hank was an avid sportsman and outdoorsman. As an accomplished curler, he was president of the Sydney Mines Curling Club and was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Curling Association, Royal Canadian Legion, N.S. Command. He had a passion for fishing and spent endless hours enjoying the tranquility of Middle River. He always enjoyed a good round of golf both at Seaview Golf and Country Club and on the greens with his friends in St. Petersburg, Florida. He spent six months of the year at his Florida home and thoroughly enjoyed playing cards with his buddies. Hank was a strong participator in his community. He was a member of Immaculate Conception parish, Sydney Mines. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus, Santa Maria Council 2024 serving as Grand Knight and District Deputy. He had a keen interest in politics and was active in fundraising. Hank is survived by his wife and soul mate of 63 years, Violet; his six children, Henry (Judy) Di Persio, Debbie (Howard) Windsor, Denise Bagnell, Maureen Mueller, Joe (Lynne) Di Persio, John (Jennifer Bowser) Di Persio. He is also survived by brothers, Patrick Di Persio, Bruno (Rose) Di Persio, Hector (Rebecca) Di Persio; sisters, Doreen Latwaitis, Ida Lyle, Sister Anne Di Persio; and grandchildren, Dan, Darryl, Jennifer, Tanya, Michelle, Nicole, Jennifer, Beth, Ted, Allie, Adam, Carla, Nicholas, Cara, Colby and Brody. In addition, he is survived by four great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, Hank was predeceased by his brother, Merino and his sister, Mary. Visitation for the late Hank DiPersio will be held in J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, Thursday, May 8, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated Friday at 2 p.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Convent Street, Sydney Mines, with Fr. Hughie MacNeil officiating. Following the burial, a reception will be held in the KOC, Sydney Mines. Online condolences may be sent to the family at jmjobesfuneralhome@ns.aliantzinc.ca.
