Passed on: April 30th, 2008
51, Montreal/Ingonish It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Donald Dovovan on Wednesday April 30, 2008, at the Royale Victoria Hospital, Montreal, after a brief illness. Born in Neil’s Harbour, June 1, 1956, he was the son of the late Vivian and Jim Donovan, Ingonish Harbour. He was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Ingonish. Donald graduated from Cabot High School, Neil’s Harbour in 1974 and went on to receive his BA from King’s College, Halifax in 1977, his BEd from Dalhousie in 1978, and his BA in French from Concordia University, Montreal. Donald was presently employed as executive director of Special Events at Ogilvies of Montreal and had worked there for over 25 years. He was a valued colleague and friend as was evident by the support shown to our family by the staff. Donald was very much involved with fundraising for cancer research, the Hope and Cope program for juvenile leukemia, and worked many hours arranging art shows, concerts, and other benefits through Ogilvies. Family was very important to Donald. He always kept in touch and visited every summer. His great sense of humour will always be remembered. Donald is survived by two sisters, Regina (Carl), Ottawa, Janette (Jerry), Ingonish; one brother, Rodney (Laura), Truro; and special parents, Jean and Owen Williams, Neil’s Harbour. Cremation has taken place. Graveside service at 2 p.m., May 17, St. Peter’s Cemetery, Ingonish, Rev. Will MacPherson officiating. Memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. To love a person, is to learn the song that is in their heart and sing it to them when they have forgotten.
