72, Port HawkesburyGeorgina Whalen, 72, of 1 Philpott St., formerly of East Bay, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 23, 2008, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Born in East Bay, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Matilda (Hall) Currie. She was a member of St. Joseph’s parish, Port Hawkesbury. ‘George’ was a very competitive person who loved to fish with her husband and family, as well as cook and bake for them. The ‘apple of her eye’ was both grandsons, Whalen and Mike, who meant everything to her. She is survived by her husband, Ron; daughters, Rhodena (Mike) Fournier, Port Hawkesbury, Sharon Hawkes, Calgary, Gail (Lee) Whalen-Matthews, Cleveland, N.S.; son, Troy, Halifax; sisters, Grace (Irvin) Farrell, California, Patricia (Joey) Leon, Westmount, Mrs. Pauline Leon, Howie Centre, Mrs. ‘Duddie’ Bagnell, Sydney, Mrs. Jean MacLean, Halifax, Shirley (Pierre) Bourgeois, Halifax; brother, Cyril (Theresa), Ontario; and grandsons, Whalen and Mike. She was predeceased by sisters, Susie Dickson and Aggie Ramsay, brothers, Mickey, John, Peter, Lauchie and Patty. Visitation for the late Mrs. Whalen will take place at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday, May 27 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Mary’s Church, East Bay, with Rev. Frank Abbass officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery, East Bay. Donations may be made to the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation or Palliative Care Society.
