81, Whitney Pier It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Romeo Sylvester which occurred after a brief battle with cancer Friday, May 23, 2008 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Brittoli, Italy, he was the son of the late Peppie Joseph and Laura (Manione) Sylvester. Romeo was a member of Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. No. 12, Sydney. Romeo served overseas and was a veteran of the Second World War. He was employed at the Sydney Steel Plant retiring after 45 years of service. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Viola (Langlois) Sylvester; three daughters, Linda, Oromocto, N.B., Karen (Todd) MacDonald Sylvester, Toronto, Ont. and Janet (Tim) Harrington, Moncton, N.B.; two sons, Peppie (Heather) Sylvester, Saint John, N.B. and Brian Francis Sylvester, Dartmouth, N.S.; step children, Shirley (Glen) Wambolt, Sydney, N.S., Barry (Noreen) Vigneau, Angus, Ont., Linda (Gary) Kitchen, Rena (Freddie) Wilcox, Wendy (Len) Vigneau and Valerie (Heather) Mackie, all of Brantford, Ont. Romeo is also survived by 18 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret (Donovan) Sylvester; one brother, Frank and a sister, Annie. Cremation has taken place. Visitation for the late Romeo Sylvester will take place Monday, May 26, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2008, in Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier with Fr. E. MacDonald officiating.
