WILLIAM SINCLAIR BUTLER

BUTLER, WILLIAM SINCLAIR - The death of Bill Butler occurred unexpectedly at home in Fredericton on April 23, 2002. Born in Richardsville, NB, April 9, 1925, he was the youngest of ten children of the late Mary Alice (Daigle) Butler and William James Butler. Bill served in the R.C.A.F. in Canada and overseas from 1943-45 and received his Bachelor of Science in Forest Engineering in 1949 from the University of New Brunswick. Bill's career began with Price Brothers, Chicoutimi, QC as Superintendant, Forest Control Dept. From 1963-70, he served as Chief Forester and later Woodlands Manager for J.D. Irving Ltd. During 1970-72 Bill was Vice-President and General Manager of Fundy Forest Industries Ltd. in St. George. In 1972 he became President and General Manager of Dead River Ltd., Fredericton. From 1988 until his retirement in 1993, he served as Executive Director of the New Brunswick Forest Products Association Inc., Fredericton. Since retirement, he remained active as a forest industry consultant and was involved in the Canadian accreditation board for accreditation for faculties of Forestry for a number of universities as well as playing golf, working on his woodlot and enjoying summers at Harvey Lake. Bill was a life member of the registered Professional Foresters of NB. He was also a member of the Corporation of Forest Engineers of QC; Canadian Pulp and Paper Association; Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4; and elected to the New Brunswick Forestry Hall of Fame in 1999. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Kathleen (Kaye Gough), one sister Johanna Butler of Montreal, four children Jeffrey (Ginette) of Niagara on the Lake, ON, Jennifer (Jim) Martin of Waweig, NB, Andrew (Dixie) of Hay River, NT, and Les (Susan) of Red Rock, ON. Nine grandchildren David, Catherine and Elisabeth Butler, Mike and Caleb Martin, Amanda Butler and Bill, Danielle and Jordan Butler. Brothers-in-law Bill (Shirley) Gough, Gerry (Carolee) Gough, sister-in-law Marion (Donald) Clowater, and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at McAdam's Select Community Funeral Home on Thursday, April 25th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral service will take place at J.A. McAdam Memorial Chapel on Friday April 26th at 2:00 PM. Rev. Ross Hebb officiating and Canon T.A. Smith assisting. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch #4 will hold a tribute service at 7:00 PM Thursday evening. Interment will take place in the Fredericton Rural Cemetery Extension.
