
Brian 'Swish' Chiasson

61, New Waterford Brian Chiasson, 61, of Ross Avenue, New Waterford, passed away Monday, May 26, 2008, surrounded by his family at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Swish had been battling with cancer for six years although you would never know it by his positive outlook on life. Born in New Waterford, Swish was the son of Mary (Hennessey) Chiasson and the late Joseph A. Chiasson. He was a member of the Parish of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Church. Swish worked for over 32 years in the coal mines. He loved sports and was an avid golfer and hunter. Swish played baseball, hockey with the Oldtimers and also liked to fish. He belonged to the Portage Golf Club in Cheticamp, and the Seaview Golf Club in North Sydney. Swish was a member of the Mount Carmel gym committee for many years as well as the KOC, Council 3209, New Waterford. Swish loved going to his trailer in Cheticamp, spending time with his family and friends and planting his garden. He used to call Cheticamp ‘His Little Florida.’ Swish will be remembered as a very loving and compassionate man known for his great sense of humour and hardy laugh. He is survived by his wife the former, Annie Mae Poirier; one daughter, Kim Billard, Sackville, N.S.; and one son, Derek, British Columbia. Swish is survived by two brothers, Alphonse (Dorothy), Ontario, Greg (Denise), British Columbia; four sisters, Bernadette (Wayne) Muir, New Waterford, Sue (Mike) Odo, Lingan, Paula (Gerard) Boudreau, New Victoria, and Cheryl (Greg) Desrosier, New Waterford. Swish is survived by his pride and joy, grandchildren, Blake and Jace Billard. Well known to many, Swish will be sadly missed by his friends, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Besides his dad, Swish was predeceased by one sister, Barb Hawley. Visitation is Wednesday, May 28 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. The funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Church with interment in the parish cemetery. After the mass, all are invited to join the family for a reception at the KOC Hall, Plummer Avenue. Members of the KOC will say prayers Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
