84, Toronto/Lingan, N.S. Alex Dan MacKinnon, 84, of Lingan Road, Lingan, N.S., passed away Monday, May 26, 2008, at the Glace Bay Hospital. Born Dec. 20,1923, in Harbour View, Inverness County, C.B.., Alex Dan was the son of the late John A. and Isabel (MacDonald) MacKinnon. He was employed by Carboloy, a division of General Electric in Toronto, Ont. Alex Dan was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Alex Dan was a former resident of Toronto but for the past year and a half he was residing with his niece, Jean (Alex) Burchell of Lingan. He is survived by one sister-in-law, Margaret MacKinnon, Dartmouth. He will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, greatnieces and greatnephews. Alex Dan was predeceased by his wife, the former Clara Diprofio and nine brothers, Daniel, Duncan, Duncan A., Angus, John Willie, Robert, Ronald, Donald, Bernie and four sisters, Mae, Mary Jessie, Annie Belle and Mary Belle. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 27 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford, 862-6439. The funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard, St. Michael’s Church, River Ryan. Following the mass all are invited to join the family for a reception in the Gaul Centre, directly below the church. As an expression of sympathy for Alex Dan, donations in his memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Condolences to the family can be expressed at www.vjmcgillivray.ca. Alex Dan will be taken to Toronto where there will be a visitation Friday, May 30 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m at Jerrett Funeral Home, 1141 St. Clair Ave. West, Toronto, 416-654-7744. He will be interred with his wife Clara in Toronto.
