Vincie Thomas
88, Long Beach Road, Port Morien It is with heartfelt sadness that we, the Thomas family, announce the passing of our father, James Vincent Thomas, at the Glace Bay Health Care Complex, as he was surrounded by his loving family. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late James and Martha Thomas. Vincie was a very special husband, father, uncle, grandfather and friend. He brought a tremendous joy to all who knew him. Vincie told many colourful stories about his boyhood friends of Port Morien. He was a lifetime fisherman out of Port Morien harbour and in a healthy retirement, he enjoyed some of his favourite pastimes of gardening, berry picking and puzzles. Proudly Vincie served as a merchant marine during the Second World War, answering our Nation’s call, asking only that we remember. In his immediate family, he is predeceased by his wife, Gertie and son, Gerald. Survived by his five sons, Wayne (Jeannie), Sheldon (Peggy), Dougie (Doreen), Calvin (Debbie), Darrell (Wendy); two daughters, Marlene (Eric) and Velma (Wayne). Vincie and Gertie had 20 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Vincie is also survived by his two sisters, Theresa McPhee and Eileen Nearing and a brother, Bernie.
