85, New Waterford Mary Ann Currie, 85, passed away Saturday, May 31, 2008, at the Maple Hill Manor, New Waterford. She had been a resident of the manor for 15 years. Born in Brook Village, Inverness County, she was the daughter of the late Dan and Margaret (MacQuarrie) MacKinnon. In her younger years Mary ran a corner store on Thompson Street. She was an avid bingo and card player and especially enjoyed poker. Mary also enjoyed her painting classes. While residing at the manor, she was named, ‘Queen Mother of the Lady’s of the Hill’, a chapter of the Red Hats Society. She was an active member of the Patient’s Rights Movement at the Maple Hill Manor. Mary had spent two years volunteering at the Queen of the Apostles Retreat Center in Mississauga, Ont. While in Ontario, she also lived with her brother Paddy McKinnon in Brampton. Mary was a member of the Parish of St. Leonard, Mt. Carmel Church. Mary Ann is survived by her brother, John ‘Paddy’ McKinnon and his wife Barbara of New Victoria. Also surviving are her two nieces who she greatly adored, Edith (Rick) Posedi, Ontario, Linda (Robert) McLeod, Victoria Mines; as well as her loving grand niece, Maggie Posedi and two grand nephews, Nicholas Posedi and Curtis McLeod. Mary is survived by her aunt Helen McIsaac who is also a resident of Maple Hill Manor, New Waterford. She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel Currie. Visitation will take place Tuesday, June 3 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. The funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard, Mt. Carmel Church. Cremation to follow with interment in the parish cemetery. As an expression of sympathy for Mary Ann, donations in her memory may be made to the Maple Hill Manor, New Waterford.
