(Sr. St. Mary of Good Counsel) 87, Holy Angels Convent, Sydney, N.S. Sr. Mary Greta McIntyre (Sr. St. Mary of Good Counsel), Congregation of Notre Dame, died suddenly on Sunday, June 1, 2008, in the 87th year of her age and the 64th year of her religious profession. Sr. Greta was the daughter of the late May Rebecca (Murphy) McIntyre, 58 Dobbin St., Sydney. She was the last surviving member of her family and was predeceased by brothers, Jim, Leo, Duncan and Cecil and by sisters, Christina (Tina) Cusack, Julia MacSween and Alice MacAskill. In addition to her religious sisters, she leaves to mourn nieces, Cheryl Kyte and Janice Farrell, Sydney, and Leanne Campbell, New Minas, N.S. She is also survived by many other nieces and nephews. Sister was a member of Sacred Heart parish and received her early education at Holy Angels. She entered the Congregation of Notre Dame of Montreal in 1942 and pronounced her religious vows in January 1944. She was a business education teacher for many years, teaching at Good Counsel Academy, Montreal, Holy Redeemer and Holy Angels high schools in Sydney, Holy Family High School, Inverness, and St. Joseph High School, Mabou. Retiring from teaching in 1967, she served as accountant at Mount St. Bernard College, Antigonish. In 1972, she became regional secretary of the CRCA (Canadian Religious Conference, Atlantic), a position she held until 1981. Subsequently, she became the provincial secretary and assistant bursar of the Atlantic Division of the congregation. Prior to her retirement, she was bursar at St. Joseph Convent, Mabou. She returned to Holy Angels Convent in 1988. For many years she taught religious education on weekends in various parts of the diocese of Antigonish. Sr. Greta received a master of arts from Columbia University, New York, and was a graduate of the College of Business Administration, Notre Dame, Indiana, and the University of Nebraska, Omaha. Her wake will be held at Holy Angels Convent, Tuesday, June 3, 2008, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A Bible Vigil will be held at 7:30 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday, June 4, in Holy Angels Chapel at 11 a.m. with Fr. A.J. MacLeod, chaplain, as celebrant. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of T.W. Curry, Parkview Chapel. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery.
