
BEULA MAE (EATON) McKENNEY
McKENNEY, BEULA MAE (EATON) - At the St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home, Saint John, N. B. on June 23rd, 2002, in her 90th year, Mrs. Beula Mae (Eaton) McKenney, formerly of Fairhaven, Deer Island, N. B. and wife of the late Howard Elroy McKenney. Born in Deer Island on October 9, 1912, she was a daughter of the late George and Susan (Farris) Eaton. She is survived by two sons, Glen and his wife, Marjorie and Donald and his wife, Sharron, both of Saint John, NB and one daughter, Deanna Emmerson and her husband, John of Moncton, NB; eight grandchildren: Brian McKenney (Sandra) of Saint John; Michael McKenney of Saint John; Beth McKenney of Ontario; Scott McKenney (Paddy) of Florida; Bryan Emmerson (Darcy) of Sackville, NB; Stephen Emmerson (Kama) of Sackville, NB; Johnny Emmerson of Sackville and Julie Emmerson Johnston (Tyler) of PEI; two step grandchildren, Doug Peacock of Calgary and Kathy Peacock Stevenson (Rob) of Vermont, USA; six great grandchildren: Devon, Marcus and Aaron McKenney of Saint John and Alexandria, David and Hunter Emmerson of Sackville; six step great grandchildren: Kassandra, Victoria, and Gareth Stevenson from Vermont and Alexandra, Courtney, and Kiera Peacock from Saint John; and many nephews and nieces. In 1947 Mrs. McKenney and her husband built the Fairhaven Restaurant and store. In December, 1954, they moved their family to Saint John and operated the Fundy Restaurant, Saint John West. Mrs. McKenney worked for Ken Grass Sr. as manager of MRA's Coffee Bar, Tea Room, Simpson's Cafeteria and Ken's Spa until they moved back to Deer Island in June of 1959, building a motel on the restaurant property and changing the name to The 45th Parallel Restaurant and Motel, which she ran until 1987. Mrs. McKenney and her husband wintered in their home in Nokomis, Florida until 1988. Mrs. McKenney was an active member of the Fairhaven Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School to teenage girls. She was President of the Women's Institute for many years. She was a chartered member of the Red Cross Volunteers on Deer Island. She was an active member and delegate for the Progressive Conservative Party in Charlotte County for many years. She was one of the founding members of the Deer Island Development Association and instrumental in getting a medical center for Deer Island. Since January 1999 she has been a resident of St. John and St. Stephen Nursing Home in Saint John. She was a wonderful wife, mother , grandmother and friend. She was deeply loved and will be missed by many. Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB with visiting on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The service will be held from the Fairhaven Baptist Church, Fairhaven, Deer Island on Wednesday at 2 PM with interment to follow at Calder's Head Cemetery. Visiting at the Church on Wednesday from 11 AM until Noon. Donations to the Fairhaven Baptist Church or to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
