McDONOUGH, REV. PATRICK GEORGE, SFM. - Father Pat was born in Oromocto, New Brunswick on February 20, 1942 and in the same hometown was ordained a priest for Scarboro Missions on August 5, 1967 by Bishop A.B. Leverman D.D. During his many years of mission service Father Pat worked in the Dominican Republic and for a period of twelve years was a key person in the building up of the Church in St. Vincent and the Grenada. Pat also lent his talent and commitment to the Archdiocese of Winnipeg where he assumed pastoral responsibilities for six years. After completing courses in gerontology in 1992, Pat was assigned to be Health and Wellness Coordinator for senior members of Scarboro Missions. His work with them was greatly appreciated because of the genuine love, care and concern which he brought to everything he did. In addition to that service, Pat was a great gardener who not only kept Scarboro Missions looking beautiful, but every summer was also a time to enjoy the fresh vegetables and produce from Paddy's garden. Marriage Encounter was a ministry that energized him and to which he dedicated himself selflessly for the last number of years. He served as chaplain and coordinator for Marriage Encounter in different parts of Canada as well as in the Caribbean and Guyana. His recent pastoral commitment in the Diocese of St. John were always the focal point of all of the energy that he could muster despite his failing health. Father Pat's father Hilary passed away in August 1986, but he is survived by his mother Laura of Burton, New Brunswick and his siblings Thomas, Arthur, Patricia and Lucy and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Visitation will take place on Monday, July 1st at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Annunciation Church in Doaktown followed by a Ecumenical service at 7:00 p.m. Father Jack Lynch SFM as celebrant. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, July 2nd, at Oromocto Select Community Funeral Home from 2-4. Vespers will be at St. Vincent de Paul Church on Tuesday evening at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass will take place on Wednesday, July 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Oromocto, Rev. Jack Lynch SFM as Celebrant. Interment will take place in the adjoining cemetery. A memorial service will be held in Scarboro on Wednesday, July 3rd, at 11:00 a.m. at 2685 Kingston Road.
