Monsignor John MacIntyre

Reserve Mines/ Kamloops, BC It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Monsignor John A. MacIntyre, son of the late Roderick and Gertrude (Turner) MacIntyre, on May 30, 2008, in Kamloops, British Columbia. Right Reverend MacIntyre was born in Reserve Mines, Nova Scotia on February 11, 1922 and received his education at Saint John’s School in New Aberdeen and Saint Anne’s School in Glace Bay, NS. From 1941 to 1945, he served in the Royal Canadian Air Force. After graduating in 1951 from Saint Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, he studied theology at Saint Augustine Seminary in Toronto and was ordained on March 5, 1955 in Antigonish for the diocese of Kamloops. Father MacIntyre was appointed Vicar General of the diocese of Kamloops in 1982 and invested as a Prelate of Honour in 1984. He resided in Kamloops for 53 years with appointments to various parishes. Mass of Christian burial will take place on June 6, 2008 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Kamloops, with The Most Reverend Bishop David Munroe celebrant. Monsignor MacIntyre was predeceased by his brother, Roderick, Turner, Rannie, Philip and sisters Gertrude Hurley and Sarah Dunphy. He is survived by his sister Mrs. Robert (Meige MacIntyre) Anderson who resides in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews in Cape Breton and Nova Scotia. A memorial mass for Monsignor MacIntyre will be held on Friday, June 13th at 6:15 p.m at St. John's Parish church, West Ave in New Aberdeen, NS with Father John J. MacIntyre officiating.
