Donalda Morrison

Passed on: June 7th, 2008

Halifax/North Sydney Donalda Christine Morrison, age 77, living in Halifax and formerly of North Sydney, passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2008, in the Maplestone Enhanced Care Nursing Home. She was predeceased by her parents, Daniel Philip and Christine Effie Morrison; sister, Betty (Horrelt); half-sister, Sadie, and half-brother, Johnnie. She is survived by her brother, Murdock and sister-in-law, Connie; several nieces and nephews; grandnieces and grandnephews. Donalda began her working career in ladies fashions and spent many years at McCurdy’s Department Store in Sydney where she was well known for her expert advice on ladies fashions, her friendly and warm personality and her kind and caring manner with her customers. Later, she became the co-manager of the Fowler’s Ladies Wear Store in North Sydney and was also a buyer for ladies fashion for the store. Donalda, while still working, was very close to her aging parents and managed to care for them in the home for many years. After her father passed away at the age of 91, Donalda and mother moved to Halifax to be near her brother and sister and care for her mother until she passed away in 1990 at the age of 95. Donalda was a member of Calvin Presbyterian Church in Halifax, sang in the choir, was a member of various committees and developed a wonderful friendship with many members of the congregation. Her church friends were a big part of her life after she moved to Halifax and continued to be for her remaining years. She was a volunteer worker for many years at the Fairview Villa Nursing Home (now Maplestone Nursing Home) and the IWK where she was recognized for the many years of service there. Donalda’s health in the last number of years was slowly declining and she went to Maplestone in 2002 and spent her last years there. She will be greatly missed and always remembered by her family and her many friends. Cremation has taken place and visitation will be at Atlantic Funeral Home at 6552 Bayers Road in Halifax from 7-9 p.m. on Monday evening, June 9, 2008. The funeral service will be held at the Calvin Presbyterian Church (3311 Asburn Ave. in Halifax) on Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at 2 p.m. with a reception to be held in the church following the funeral service. The interment will be at the Oakridge Memorial Gardens, Old Sackville Road following the reception. Family flowers only and donations may be made to the IWK or the Calvin Presbyterian Church.
