Kenneth Charles MacDermid

Passed on: May 29th, 2008

53, Dartmouth It is with deep sadness that we, the family, regret to announce the passing of Charles MacDermid which occurred Thursday, May 29, 2008, in Edmonton, Alta., while visiting his sons. Charles, formerly of Baddeck, was the son of the late Kenneth John MacDermid and Kathleen (Fownes) MacDermid residing in Alderwood Rest Home. Left to mourn his passing are his mother; his two sons, Darcy, Toronto, Ont., Casey, Windsor, Ont.; and their mother, Patricia Darcy MacDermid, Windsor, Ont.; his sister, Juanita (Douglas) Macaulay, Baddeck; niece, Rebecca, Halifax; nephew, Kenneth, California; a very special cousin, Kenene (Dorherty) Fergusson, who was like a big sister; and numerous cousins and friends. Charles graduated from Eastern Tech in 1974 as a mechanical engineer technologist. He worked in Rainbow Lake, Alta., and in Kelowna, B.C., where he was employed by Hiram Walker. He was transferred to Windsor, Ont., where he continued to work for Hiram Walker in a management capacity until 2004. Charles was passionate about drawing and at age 52 went back to school for graphic art and design. He spent his last year at NSCC Waterfront campus in Dartmouth, where he did extremely well. Charles found happiness and contentment in doing his woodcarving, woodworking and sketching. He was a very gifted craftsman, avid sailor and true friend. Charles loved his boys dearly and it is comforting to know his last days were spent with them. His hearty laugh, great sense of humour and warm, gentle personality will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Cremation has taken place under the direction of MacAskill Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday, June 13, 6-9 p.m. at MacAskill Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Saturday, June 14 at 11 a.m. from Greenwood United Church, Baddeck, with Rev. Karen Lynch officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or Greenwood United Church.
