44, We’koqma’q Belinda Virginia Bernard, 44, We’koqma’q First Nation, passed away Monday, June 9, 2008, in Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck. Born in Antigonish, she was a daughter the late Stephen Gilbert and Shirley Anne (Francis) Googoo and biological mother, Margaret Simon, Paq’tnkek. Belinda was a member of Holy Trinity parish, We’koqma’q. She graduated from the Invest In Me Program on May 9, 2008. She was also a translator for the Justice Department, graduating in 1995. She is survived by her husband, Charles Jr.; daughters, Stephenie, Halifax, Dina (Karl Sabattis), Kingsclear, N.B., Crystal, Fredericton N.B., Melinda, We’koqma’q; sons, John Paul, Halifax, Tristan, We’koqma’q; grandson, Zachary Stephen; granddaughter, Shirley Anne; sister, Bernadette Peters, Halifax; brothers, Barry (Fredicka) Francis, Eskasoni, and Victor (Annie Gould) Googoo, We’koqma’q; and Godchild, Veronica Googoo. She was predeceased by sister, Yvonne Cantres. Visitation after 4 p.m. Thursday, June 12 at the family residence, 14 Bernard Blvd., We’koqma’q. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, June 14 from Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, We’koqma’q, with Fr. Bernie MacDonald officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.
