James Morrison MacKillop

age 97 Jim, age 97, passed away on June 7, 2008, at Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck, N.S. Born in Sydney, he was the son of Malcolm and Minnie (MacAulay) MacKilllop of Baddeck Bay. Jim is survived by his son, Jack (Aileen); brothers, Allan (Pat), Vancouver, B.C., Murdock (Ada), Baddeck Bay; sisters, Catherine Reynolds, Baddeck Bay, Daisy MacDonald, Florence Goad, Vancouver B.C., and Muriel Kaiser (John), Baddeck Bay; sister-in-law, Peggy Morrison, Baddeck; granddaughters, Maureen Court (Chris Cookson) and Bonnie Maurer (Martin), Halifax; great-grandchildren, Mitchell and Grace Court and Noah Maurer, Halifax; also many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret (Morrison), daughter-in-law, Barbara, brothers, Norman, Gus and Ian and sisters, Norrie and Tina. Jim lived and worked most of his life in Long Hill, Victoria County. He first worked for the local Gypsum Co., then with F.W. ‘Casey’ Baldwin as shop foreman on the Hydrofoil Development. He then worked on the Bell Estate for Gilbert Grosvenor and family and spent winters working in the National Geographic Carpenter Shop in Washington, D.C. In later years he helped to maintain and skipper the famous yawl, ‘Elsie.’ Jim was an outdoor person who enjoyed duck hunting for many years with friends, snowmobiling and most of all golfing at Baddeck Forks. He was a founding and devoted member of the Baddeck Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. There will be visitation at MacAskill’s Funeral Home, Grant Street, Baddeck, from 2-4 p.m., Saturday, June 21 with a memorial service on Sunday, June 22 at the Kingdom Hall of the Jehovah’s Witnesses, Baddeck, at 2 p.m. Interment at a later date. Family flowers only. Donations to the charity of your choice.
