83, New Waterford It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Earl Dupe on Monday, June 23, 2008, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Ingonish, he was the son of the late Charles and Marjorie (Winters) Dupe. Earl was employed with Devco as a coal miner for a number of years and then moved on to operate his own service station in New Waterford. He also worked for the town of New Waterford as a mechanic, retiring in 1984. His love and sense of humour were evident to his last days. He had a great love of the outdoors and nature, especially fishing and fishing the Margaree River, making new friends and meeting with older ones. He always enjoyed spending the summers at the bungalow in Margaree. Earl is survived by his wife of 30 years, Phyllis (Watson) Dupe; two stepdaughters, Celeste (Richard) Murray, Dartmouth, and Gwen (Donnie) Ellsworth, Kingston, N.S.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters, Clara Hawley (Fred) and Martha ‘Toots’ (Lawrence) MacLean, Eloise (Charles) McAskill, all of Ontario, and Marjorie Orton, Sydney. Besides his parents, Earl was predeceased by his former wife, Mary Louise Poirier, his son, Earl ‘Luigie’ and three brothers, Jake, Morrison and Jim. Visitation for Earl will take place Wednesday, June 25 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, N.S., 862-7500. A funeral mass to celebrate Earl’s life will take place Thursday, June 26 at 11 a.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard/Mount Carmel Church. Cremation will follow. A luncheon will be held at the KOC Hall, Plummer Avenue, all are invited. Donations in Earl’s memory may be made to the Cape Breton Palliative Care or the VON, which we thank so much for their compassion and wonderful care of Earl.
