Edward King

Florence It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Edward V. King, Florence, on Monday, June 23, 2008, at the Northside General Hospital. Born in Florence, he was the son of the late George and Minnie (Long) King. He was a member of St. Stephen’s parish, Florence. He worked at the Florence and Princess collieries. He also did plumbing and heating at Moore’s Electric in North Sydney, and was custodian of Florence Elementary School until his retirement. Edward was a man of many talents. Two of his favourite hobbies were woodworking and fishing. He is survived by his loving wife, Josephine (Jessome) King; daughters, Dolores, Florence, Patrice (Dennis) Jones, Kempt Head, Alison (Gerard) Tremblett, Florence, and Angela (John) Finney, Sydney Mines. Also surviving are his sisters, Madonna (Ken) Bishop, Coxheath, Ann (Danny) MacLean, St. Catharines, Ont., and brothers, Jim, Florida, and David (Phyllis), Sydney Mines; grandchildren, Jennifer, Holly and Edward and a great-grandson, Liam. Edward was predeceased by brothers, George, Louis, Gregory, a sister, Catherine and a great-granddaughter, Adrianna Rose. Visitation for Edward King will be held in the J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, on Thursday, June 26, 2008, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass to celebrate Edward’s life will take place Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Stephen’s Church, Florence, with Fr. Reg Currie officiating. The burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bras d’Or. Donations in Edward’s memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to a charity of one’s choice.
