81, Amenia, N.Y. Hugh O’Handley Sr., 81, of Amenia, N.Y. and formerly of Sydney Mines, N.S., died June 18, 2008. He was born in Boston and raised in Sydney Mines by his parents, Angus and Sarah (Sadie) Davidson O’Handley and was named for his uncle The Reverend Hugh O’Handley of Sydney Mines. He lived in the States from 1946 and was a well known business owner, builder of homes and a councilman in local government for many years. He was a member of the Lions Club, the Fire Company and the Knights of Columbus. In his last weeks he was visited by children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family from as far away as Canada, Iraq and all over the U.S. He is survived by his wife, Rosmarie; seven children, Jean, Michael, Hugh Jr., John, Christopher, Liliane, Thomas; first wife, Marion; brother, Albert; sister, Theresa MacNeil; and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Angus and Sarah, brothers, John and Daniel, and daughter, Nancy Page. He was very fond of people, had a great and well-known sense of humour and relished the opportunity for healthy political debate. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
