Ida Sarah Finney

(nee Brown) Sydney Mines On Tuesday, July 08, 2008, Ida Finney, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Ida will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 50 years, John (Jack); their children, Bill (Belinda), Chilliwack, B.C., Derrick (Marcia), Cole Harbour, N.S., Trevor, Edmonton, Alta., Darryl (Brenda), Alder Point, N.S., and their three grandchildren, Jordan, Jessica and Brandon. She is also survived by her brother, Jim (Donna), Sydney Mines, N.S.; and sisters, Judy (Bud), Edmonton, Alta., and Glenda (Al), Glace Bay, N.S. Ida was predeceased by her loving parents, Bill and Mary (Pyke) Brown of Florence. Ida was very active in her church community throughout her entire lifetime. She was an avid bowler and square dancer, and after retiring from Nova Scotia Power in 1997, she focused her significant energies as a palliative care volunteer, through which she impacted the lives of many people. A celebration of Ida’s life will be held Thursday, July 10, 2008, at 2 p.m. in Trinity Anglican Church, Queen Street, Sydney Mines, with the Rev. Peter Rafuse officiating. Donations in Ida’s memory may be made to the Palliative Care Society, Trinity Anglican Church, or to a charity of one’s choice.
