89, Grand Lake Road It is with great sadness we announce the death of Charles Wilfred Kyte. Our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully, on July 17, 2008, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with his loving family at his side. Born in Sydney, April 28, 1919, Charlie was a lifelong resident of Kyte’s Hill, Grand Lake Road. The son of the late William and Mary (Minnie MacDonald) Kyte, Grand Lake Road, Charlie was a member of St. Augustine’s Parish. He is survived by his loving wife, Alice (Mackie); his five daughters, Marilyn (Archie) MacEachern, Sydney, Charlene (Vince) Walker, Coxheath, Audrey (Bill) Murphy, Sydney, Debbie (Pat) O’Connor, Vancouver, B.C., Elaine Kyte, Halifax; his grandchildren, Timothy (Stephanie) and David MacEachern, Alison (Scott) Fulton and Glenn Walker, Ryan, Liam and Caitlin Murphy, Megan and Bryce O’Connor, Kelsey and Brooke Ferguson; great-granddaughters, Hailey and Kathryn MacEachern, Lauren Fulton and great-grandson, Cameron Charles Fulton. Charlie is also survived by brothers, John (Peggy) and Ralph (Mary), along with sister-in-law, Peggy Kyte. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his sisters, Alice and Ellen and brothers, Edward and Birney. Charlie retired from Sysco in 1984 having worked first in the machine shop and for many years, at the pumping station at Grand Lake. Following his retirement, Charlie was self employed as a mailman for Canada Post on RR4 in the Grand Lake Road - Gardiner Road area. In his earliar years, Charlie was very involved in his community. He was a founding member of the Grand Lake Road Volunteer Fire Department and, following his retirement, was given the ongoing distinction of Honourary Member. Charlie was also a member of the Board of Trustees of the St. Augustine and Lakevale Schools and a founding member of St. Augustine’s Parish, Grand Lake road. Charlie Kyte was a gentleman of quiet dignity and wisdom. A positive influence upon all who were fortunate enough to spend time in his company. He took great pride in the successes of his family and community. Charlie’s (Papa’s) presence, his stories of life in Grand Lake, his much anticipated toasts at family gatherings and his endless charm will be forever missed. Visitation for the late Charles Kyte will take place Sunday, July 20, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T.W Curry Parkview Chapel. A funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, July 21 at 11 a.m. at St. Theresa Church with Fr. James Oliver officiating. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
