MARTELL, ROBERT JOSEPH - Born as (Robert Arthur Walsh), age 68, with the same courage that carried him throughout his life, lost his fight with cancer at the Palliative Care Unit Saint John Regional Hospital on Thursday March 6, 2003. Bob's loving wife Shirley (Butland) Martell was by his side to the end. Bob was predeceased by his infant son Robert Monte Martell, birth mother Margaret Walsh Clifford and birth brother Gerry Walsh. Bob is survived by his children Dorothy Ann Martell (Deiter Pellman) of B.C., sons Monte Richard Martell, Edward Joseph Martell of Calgary A.B., step children Donald Martin of Fredericton, Cindy Martin and David (Kim) Martin of Toronto, Ont., Michael (Shelly) Martin of Quispamsis, NB. Also survived by three grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; and three step great grandchildren; and his only sister Peggy Clifford of Toronto, Ont. His memory will also be cherished by the large number of nephews and nieces throughout the country. Bob was a long standing member of the Labour Union 1278 of NB and Union 506 of Ontario. Bob was also actively involved with the greater Toronto Hockey Minor League in his retirement years. Following cremation, a Memorial Service will be held on Monday March 10, 2003 at 2 p.m. from the Renewed Hope Church of God, 1411 Loch Lomond Road, with a reception to follow. The family would appreciate donations made to the Canadian Cancer Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424).
