CHARLES JOHN STEEN

STEEN, CHARLES JOHN - Peacefully, surrounded by his family, on March 12, 2003, Mr. Charles John Steen of St. George, NB. Born in Carmel, Maine, he was a son of the late Charles John Steen Sr. and Mary Elizabeth (Cordingly) Steen. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Charles is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth (Craig) Steen; one daughter, Judith (Terry) Koch of Cross Creek, NB; three sons, Robert Charles (Shirlee) Steen of Slave Lake, Alberta, Donald Allen Steen of Saint John, and Wayne Craig (Mary Lou) Hoyt of Tay Creek, NB; 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; one brother, Bill (Blanche) Steen of St. George; special cousins Fr. Ray Steen and Patricia Steen of Quincy, Mass.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Charles was an avid golfer, a great gardener and outdoorsman. He was a great lover of music and a member of the Masters Musicians. He was a veteran having served overseas in WWII, and was a member of the St. George Baptist Church for many years, where he served as a Sunday School teacher and usher. Charles had been a Production Manager in the pulp and paper industry, having worked for a number of years at St. George Pulp and Paper, and at South Nelson Forest Products in Miramichi. After returning to Charlotte County, he worked as a Production Manager at Starkist Tuna in Bayside until his retirement in 1990. Charles was pre-deceased by one brother, Francis; two sisters, Anna Armstrong and Florence Kernighan. Resting at the St. George Funeral Home, 26 Portage Street, St. George, NB E5C 3L6 (755-3533), with visiting hours on Saturday from 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm. The service will be held on Sunday at 2 pm from the St. George Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Yerxa officiating. Interment at the St. George Rural Cemetery in the spring. There will be a Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 40 tribute on Saturday at 7 pm. Donations to the Charlotte County Cancer Society or a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family. www:stgeorgefh.ca
