Harold 'Hal' Spencer

60, Donkin It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Harold Harvey ‘Hal’ Spencer on Thursday, July 24, 2008, at the Glace Bay Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer. Hal was born and lived most of his life in Donkin. He was well known in the music circles, playing in many bands around Cape Breton and it was said that he could make his guitar sing. Hal was employed in the construction industry and for a short while, worked in Calgary, Alta. He was predeceased by his parents, Aubrey and Dorothy (Caines) Spencer and brother, Gilbert Spencer. Hal is survived by his sons, Steven (Tara) Spencer, Halifax, and Bradley Spencer, Kingston, Ont.; sister, Patricia (Jack) Wheeliker, Glace Bay; brother, Aubrey (Chris) Spencer, New Brunswick, and Keith Spencer, Alberta; special aunt, Muriel McLellan; special cousins, Doug and Marg Howie and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. A memorial service will be held at St. Luke’s United Church at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 27. Family flowers only. Memorials may be made to St. Luke’s United Church, Palliative Care or charity of one’s choice. Condolences may be sent to the family at sydneymemorialchapel@ns.sympatico.ca.
