David Campbell Bruce

69, Dartmouth David died suddenly at home on July 28, 2008. Born in Sydney Mines, he was a son of the late David and Christine (MacLean) Bruce. He is survived by son, Steve (Margo), Dartmouth; daughter, Carolyn, Brantford, Ont.; grandchildren, Andrew and Julianne Bruce; brother, Brian (Geraldine), Dartmouth; sister, Ronalda (Roy) Bishop, Sydney Mines; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Linda (George) Ferguson, Dartmouth. David left home as a teenager to become a military policeman in the Canadian Forces and was posted in Debert, Marville, France, Torbay, Nfld., Greenwood, Shearwater and Chatham, N.B., before retiring in 1977 and moving to the Truro area with his family. His children were born in Belgium while he was stationed in France. He lived in Halifax-Dartmouth for the last 20 years of his life and spent hours walking around downtown Dartmouth and the Sullivans Pond area. He adored his grandchildren, who affectionately referred to him as GaGa, and was so proud of their accomplishments, particularly in hockey. The past two seasons, he rarely missed a Dartmouth High boys game or Dartmouth Whalers bantam girls contest. Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held Friday, Aug. 1 at 11 a.m. at Dartmouth Funeral Home, 29 Queen St. Family flowers only. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice.
