Violet Irene McIsaac
Passed on: July 29th, 2008
94, New Waterford It is with deep sadness that the family announce the passing of Violet Irene McIsaac, age 94, of Eighth Street, New Waterford. Violet passed away peacefully Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at the Maple Hill Manor in New Waterford. Born in River Ryan, she was a daughter of the late John and Catherine (Lee) Quinn. After the death of her husband, Ronnie, Violet was employed at the New Waterford Hospital in the central supply room, until her retirement. The name Violet suited her quite well, as she loved to have flowers everywhere in her home. Violet truly enjoyed visits from her nephew, Jamsie, ‘the Quinn girls’, Eileen and Hilda. She was very active in her life and loved playing cards with the ladies in her club (Annie MacEachern, Mary MacKenzie, Ella Cummings, Olive Chiasson, Theresa Webb, Rita Connors), bingo, shopping, sitting on her front step swing having a great chat with neighbours and friends, a good argument and a good joke. She was always dressed to the nines in her leopard skin clothes and wore lots of jewelry. Violet was a member of Mount Carmel parish Catholic Women’s League, New Waterford Seniors, Ageing Gracefully and Seniors Exercise Class. She is survived by daughters, Helen (the late Frank) Sharpe, Mary (Jimmy) Kavanaugh, Ann Louise (Danny) MacNeil, all of New Waterford, Deborah (Eddy) McIsaac, Halifax; grandchildren, Kim (Glen) Matheson, Quinn Kavanaugh, Ronnie Sharpe, Stephen (Amber) Sharpe; great-grandchildren, Kendra McIsaac Matheson and Jake Anthony Sharpe; as well as several nieces and nephews. Violet was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Ronald Joseph, one son, John, in infancy, brothers, Barney Quinn and Jimmy Quinn, sisters, Beatrice Carpenter, Minnie Petrie, Alice Cameron, sister-in-law, Catherine McIsaac and niece, Beverley McNeil. Visitation with Violet’s family will be held Friday, Aug. 1 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A celebration of Violet’s life will take place Saturday, Aug. 2, at 11 a.m. in the Parish of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Church with Fr. Paul MacNeil officiating. Cremation will follow with interment in the parish cemetery at a later date. A luncheon will take place in the Carmel Centre immediately following the mass. All are welcome to attend. Donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. Online expressions of sympathy may be expressed at www.vjmcgillivray.net.
