68, Baddeck James Garland, 68, of Baddeck, died Tuesday, July 29, 2008, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. Born in Baddeck, he was a son of the late Sarah (MacLean) and George Garland. He was a mechanic by trade and was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his wife, Kay (MacLeod) Garland; son, Dougie and wife Nancy (Tarbot); daughters, Ruthann, Sydney Mines; Mary, U.S.A., and Helen, Montreal; brothers, John and Billy Garland, both of Toronto; Ewen (Kay) MacLean, Baddeck; sisters, Rita (Charlie) Cook, Marian (Herman) Phillips, Sally (Billy) MacDonald and Hilda (Aubrey) Pardo, all of Baddeck; grandchildren, Cathy, Justin and Melissa Garland, Brandon, Megan and Jade Bennett. By his request, cremations has taken place. Visitation 1-2 p.m. followed by funeral at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, both in Knox Presbyterian Church, Rev. Lloyd Murdock officiating. Burial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Victoria County Memorial Hospital Charitable Foundation. Arrangements are under the direction of MacAskill Funeral Home, Baddeck.
