George Stanley Burton
Born: August 5th, 1938
Passed on: July 31st, 2008
69, Margaree Centre George Stanley, age 69, of Margaree Centre, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, July 31, 2008, at the Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital. He was born August 5, 1938, in Kings County Memorial Hospital Berwick, N.S. He was the son of the late Stanley R. and Georgie (nee Taylor) Burton. He was a retired forestry worker. He always enjoyed the outdoors and hunting was one of his passions. His yearly trips to the “camp” added to his wide collection of stories. Anyone who walked through Mom and Dad’s door would always be treated to his wonderful sense of humour and a tale or two. Every spring the house would become a mini-greenhouse, from tomato plants for Marguerite to eight-foot hollyhocks. We believe his ability to produce such a bountiful crop came from his “extra” green thumb. His proudest legacy were two children, who will miss him dearly. They hope they will inherit a small measure of his courageous perseverance and profound spirit. His grandchildren, Mariah, Reeve and Kyran provided him with such joy. His wife, Sara, of 42 years was his constant companion, best friend and forever love. Their commitment to each other was a testament to marriage “in sickness and in health.” He is survived by his wife, the former Sarah Timmons; son, John J. Burton and wife Bonnie, Bible Hill, N.S.; daughter, Shauna A. Burton and fiancé, Aubrey Cranton, Margaree Centre, N.S.; his beautiful grandchildren, Mariah Fortune, Reeve and Kyran Burton; brothers, Laird (Marg), Margaree, N.S., Bert, North East Margaree, N.S.; sisters, Pastor Dale Crawford, Shubenacadie, N.S., and Liz (Gord), Margaree Forks, N.S and many nieces and nephews who loved their “Uncle George.” He was predeceased by his father, Stanley R. and mother, Georgie, sister, Annapolis Valley Burton and infant brother, William James. The body is resting in the Shalom room at Wilson United Church Hall, today (Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008), with visitation from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. In accordance with George’s wishes, a small family service will be held in the Shalom Room at Wilson United Church Hall on Sunday, Aug. 3 at 1 p.m. Following committal, the funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. from Wilson United Church, Margaree Centre with Rev. Capt. Harry Crawford officiating. Donations may be made to charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of MacAskill Funeral Home.
