MARCELLE MIRIELLE 1923 - 2003 JETTE
JETTE, MARCELLE MIRIELLE 1923 - 2003 - Marcelle Jette of Minto passed away peacefully at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital on May 27, 2003 after a brief illness. She was 80. Born in Montreal, Quebec she was the daughter and only child of Albert Gauthier and Valentin Vandermeren and the stepdaughter of Rudolph H. Meyer. She was educated in Minto, N.B. and Montreal, Quebec and lived and worked in Montreal during World War II during which time she became fluently bilingual. She returned to the Maritimes and married Maurice M. Jette in 1947 in Sydney, N.S. and they settled in Minto in 1948. Predeceased by her parents and stepfather, she was widowed in 1976 and became strongly independent. She enjoyed foreign travel and had made trips to Australia, Russia, Europe and the Middle East. Her mother and maternal grandparents, Alexandre and Maria Vandermeren emigrated to Canada in 1912 and she was especially happy on one of her many trips to have located their pre-World War I home in Charleroi, Belgium. She also spent more than 40 happy summers at her cottages at Princess Park and Sunnyside Beach at Grand Lake, N.B. where she enthusiastically participated in the regular meetings of the "Chubby Club". A member of the Holy Rosary Parish in Minto she was a long time member of the CWL and a life member of the Queen's North Health Complex Ladies Auxiliary. She is survived by her son, M. Robert Jette and her daughter-in-law, Patricia Gallagher of Rothesay, N.B., and her two beloved granddaughters, Natalie Erin Jette of Jakarta, Indonesia and Maura Anne Jette of Toronto, O.N. She will be sadly missed. Resting at the Minto Funeral Home, Main Street, Minto, N.B. (327-3490) with visitation on Thursday 7-9 p.m. and Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 31 from Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Minto, N.B. with Father P. Stephen officiating. Interment will follow at St. Brigid's Catholic Cemetery. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations made in Marcelle's memory to the Queen's North Health Complex Ladies Auxiliary.
