MYRTLE EVELYN RILEY
RILEY, MYRTLE EVELYN - Passed away peacefully at Meaford General Hospital, Wednesday May 28, 2003 after a brief illness, in her 74th year. Born in Saint John, New Brunswick, Myrt was the daughter of the late Hazel and Harry Linton and predeceased by brothers Bob and Harry Linton and sister Frances Matthews. As the much-loved wife of Allan J. Riley since1949, they lived the length and breadth of Canada during his military career. Myrt and Al have spent the last eight years living on the shores of Georgian Bay, Ontario. Myrt became the devoted mother of Kerry (husband David Johnston), Meaford; Shawn (and wife Bev), Toronto; Aleen (and partner Lorraine Wells), Toronto; Moira (and husband Barry Kilgour), Oakville; Tracy (and husband Rob Muir), Toronto. There will be a huge gap in the lives of granddaughter Morgyn Johnston and grandsons Brian and Alexander Muir. She will also be very missed by her many nieces and nephews across Canada, her brothers-in-law Ron Riley (and Reta) of Ajax and Art Maher of Saint John and sisters-in-law Rose Riley and Mary Riley of Saint John. Myrt loved to have her children and grandchildren visit for family celebrations. She loved baking, was a voracious reader and knitter and began to enjoy gardening after spending many summers in Rose Linton and Allie Pratt's Greenwich New Brunswick garden. She truly loved theatre, sitting close to the stage and laughing the loudest and longest. Myrt kept her sense of humour always and it remained with her until the end. A gathering of family and friends will take place later this summer in Saint John, New Brunswick. A little work, a little play To keep us going - and so, good-day! A little warmth, a little light Of love's bestowing - and so, good-night! A little fun, to match the sorrow Of each day's growing - and so, good-morrow! A little trust that when we die We reap our sowing! And so, good-bye!
